Jbaa, November 27th, 2016 - Advanced Car Rental organized an employee planting day in close collaboration with Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI), a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and implemented by the United States Forest Service (USFS), which aims at restoring Lebanon’s native forests.
The event took place on the 27th of November in Jbaa- Shouf within the framework of the collaboration between Advanced Car Rental, LRI, the Municipality of Jbaa and the Shouf Biosphere Reserve.
Around 100 employees participated along with partners in this planting day to contribute to the success of the “Carbon Free Journey”, a green initiative that was launched by Advanced Car Rental this November. The initiative aims at neutralizing the CO2 emission of the company’s fleet through a long-term engagement in reforestation, starting in Jbaa by turning a quarried land into a 20-hectares forest, and planting 16,000 native tree seedlings.
“As a car rental company, we feel responsible for the harm that we are indirectly causing the environment, and by launching the “Carbon Free Journey”, we want to encourage other companies to incorporate this mindset into their cultures, because we believe that together we can make a change towards a greener Lebanon”, said Advanced Car Rental’s Sales Manager, Shady Younis.
All partners agreed on the importance of this partnership that will contribute to the expansion of the cedar forests in the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the safe shelter for birds and animals. It will also help increase environmental awareness nationally and will contribute to increasing Lebanon’s green cover. This was voiced in the remarks of Mr. Fadi Hilal, Jbaa’s Head of Municipality, Shouf Biosphere Reserve’s Manager, Mr. Nizar Hani, Lebanon Reforestation Initiative’s Project Director, Dr. Maya Nehme.
